POSITION:           Senior GIS Specialist

LOCATION:         Red Lodge, Montana

DURATION:        Temporary – Spring-Falll 2010

 

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS:  This contract position will serve as technical coordinator for a Montana Land Information Act (MLIA) funded project involving the production of a digital road/address atlas for Carbon County emergency services.   The person will use Geographic Information System (GIS) and related technologies to design, produce and test a digital “GeoAtlas”.  The GeoAtlas will consist of a series of paper and digital maps in grant administrator format for the entire County.  Three base maps ( topographic, aerial and cadastral) will be constructed for the County.

The contractor will work with Red Lodge Fire Rescue to produce a total of 100 softcopies (DVD) and approximately 50-75 hardcopies of the GeoAtlas.  The contractor is also expected to oversee distribution and training of the GeoAtlas to the nine rural fire districts, three ambulance districts, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Search and Rescue, Disaster and Emergency Services, four police departments and the dispatch center.  The contractor will coordinate at least 2 training sessions on the use of the GeoAtlas and will present its functionality at a quarterly meeting of the Carbon County Fire Council.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in computer science, geography, or a related field and six years of experience in GIS or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job is required.  Master’s degree preferred.  Proficiency in ArcMap GIS, database design and data automation, and QA/QC procedures is required.  Experience with DS Mapbook, TerraGO Map2PDF toolbar, Capturx pen technology is preferred.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; effectively plan and lead multiple complex projects based on diverse technologies, and work independently with very little supervision.
